Trauma/PTSD

Trauma/PTSD

Trauma can come in different guises like depression, PD, anxiety, anger, addictions, eating disorders, insomnia and isolation.  It can be difficult to address, identify and talk about because you may feel shame and fear of judgement. Sometimes people maybe reluctant to come into therapy  for fear of being judged and others not believing them. Therapy maybe a good place to start.

Break-ups/Betrayals

It can be difficult going through a breakup, ending a significant relationship and coming to  terms with the fact your relationship hasn't worked out. You maybe left with feelings of anger, betrayal, resentment, loss, thoughts of being let down, hurt, sadness and disempowerment.

It can take time to move on and the best way is to be honest with how you are really feeling. Friends and family may mean well and their intentions are good but you may find that you can't be completely honest with them. You may think it's unfair to burden them with your feelings and problems or you fear their judgement for why you haven't moved on yet.

Talking about your  disappointments, anger and strong remaining feelings  for your ex with a therapist  can be beneficial to help you move on, make difficult decisions to support your acceptance for your loss of your relationship. I can support you to reflect  and express your feelings and thoughts about either ending or continuing your relationship. I can offer you  space and time to move at your own pace.

Anxiety/Depression

Learn practical tools to manage anxiety and depression symptoms to improve your quality of life. Explore the root causes of your anxiety or depression or both by building your awareness on how anxiety affects you,  identify your triggers, build strategies to minimise the affects of anxiety and depression  by building your skills in self management.

It can be hard to identify what maybe triggering your anxiety on your own. The feeling may feel so overwhelming that you get stuck in focusing and avoiding what may go wrong, feelings of shame and pressure to not feel the way you do. Therapy can help you to slow down the process, learn how to challenge distorted thought patterns, negative beliefs and behaviours that are not helpful for you to manage your feelings and thoughts.

Alcohol/Drug use

Are you worried  or concerned about your drug use?

Are you worried or concerned about how much alcohol you are drinking?

Using alcohol, cocaine, cannabis and other recreational drugs can sometimes appear to be a harmless way to relax, socialise and cope with unwanted thoughts and feelings. Using this way can become problematic if physical and psychological dependency develops. Dependency means you have lost your ability to chose when to drink or use and when not to. It now feels like a need to use or a tool to manage how you feel and think.

I can support you to

  • Control your use,
  •  Gradually or quickly support you to get to abstinence and stop
  • Aim for a period of abstinence and then support you to think how you will like to continue your use if you chose to
  • Maintain abstinence
  • Family and significant others support

ADHD -Neuro-diversity

Support you to improve communication, build  your awareness with psycho education on how ADHD can impact you and also the benefits of  having ADHD.  Manage thoughts and feelings better, find acceptance to normalise your symptoms of ADHD and learn to self manage anxiety/depression associated with ADHD. Please note I do not give diagnoses  as you will need a qualified psychiatrist to do this for you. I work with those who have been diagnosed or those who want to explore ADHD without a diagnosis. However, I can offer ASRS11 assessments to help assess if you have traits or want to pursue a diagnosis  with a psychiatrist.

Loneliness/Isolation

Sometimes circumstances can make us lonely. For example, moving to a new country or city, loss of a loved one, unsociable working hours, loss of a job, lack of money or physical or mental health.

Being lonely can affect your self esteem, confidence and worth. I can support you to build confidence,  find tolerance in uncertainty, find acceptance for yourself, and develop or improve interpersonal relationships.

If you find your self  saying or thinking; 'I'm lonely', 'People wont like me if they really got to know me.', 'I'm too shy', 'I have problems communicating and sharing with other people.' 'I don't trust people.', 'I'm lonely because I don't have that special someone in my life.'  or 'I'm too negative!' Maybe therapy may be good place to start.
